Picnic vibes: our favourite spots to picnic this summer

It’s no secret that we are blessed with pretty sensational weather all year round in Western Australia, and summer is no exception. From still mornings by the ocean to sunny afternoons and balmy summer nights, we really are spoilt for choice when it comes to spending time outdoors and what better way to do this than with a delicious picnic somewhere? When you live in Flamewood, there are so many great options nearby to spend a sunny afternoon, so we’ve put together a list of our favourites for you to add to your list this season, all within an easy drive from home!

Whiteman Park
Only 7 minutes away from home and 10 times larger than Kings Park, Whiteman Park offers a vast array of space for you to enjoy a day out with friends and family. With over 30 picnic and shade shelters available for hire, you’ll be guaranteed the best spot for your nature side picnic. There are plenty of things to do at Whiteman Park too, from vintage train rides to bush walking trails, this is no ordinary picnic! Every member of the family is welcome too with a specially built dog park for four legged friends to run free and socialise with other pups. Lilac Hill Park
Widely renowned for its international standard cricket facilities and only 11 minutes away from Flamewood Estate, there is plenty of fun to be had at Lilac Hill Park. If you’ve got an active crew then they’ll love the playground and open grassed spaces to kick a ball or run around, or if you’re looking for more of a relaxing day then there are some nice shady spots to chill out by the Swan River and maybe even cast a line! Located on the north side of Barkers Bridge on West Swan Road, this is an ideal spot for a weekend catch up. Stirling Square
Located in the heart of Guildford, Stirling Square is shaded by large, leafy trees and offers a playground, gazebos and public toilets to visitors. A large gazebo sits in Stirling Square and is a popular venue for wedding ceremonies as well as picnics and dogs are welcome on leads. For the history buffs among you, there is a self-guided walk trail that goes through Stirling Square which covers the heritage of the area. Only 15 minutes from Flamewood and walking distance to Guildford’s popular restaurant and pub scene, Stirling Square is a great location for some fun in the sun.

Kings Meadow Reserve
Meandering along the Helena River, Kings Meadow Reserve is a popular spot among locals for picnics, BBQ’s and birdwatching. Plenty of shaded spaces and picnic tables make this local park a great option to settle in for the afternoon with delicious food and drinks and good company. Middle Swan Reserve
For a secluded and peaceful picnic by the river, look no further than Middle Swan Reserve. Less than 10 minutes from your home in Flamewood you will find yourself at a tranquil riverside location which is perfect for reading a book under the trees, sharing a picnic meal or to launch your kayak or canoe for a paddle. Middle Swan Reserve has BBQ and toilet facilities for visitors, as well as picnic tables and wheelchair access. If you feel like extending your day out, be sure to visit one of the neighbouring wineries, restaurants or cafes.
